The ambitious endeavor is called Gaia, and for the last several years, ESA has been steadily making progress on the dream. Scientists who're part of the collaboration have collected tons of spectacular data about the more than 1 billion stars throughout our galaxy, recording every juicy detail along the way.

And on Monday, the team reached a massive checkpoint for the project. 

Lucky for us, it also released some remarkable visuals, which encompass the treasure box of cosmic secrets gathered so far. This particular milestone is formally referred to as Gaia data release 3, and importantly, it's one that ESA says is the "most detailed Milky Way survey to date."

In this dataset, not only can you see thousands of solar system objects, like asteroids, moons and other celestial marvels within our galaxy, but you can also peruse millions of galaxies and phenomena outside the Milky Way.

Prior to Apple's iOS 14 update, the incoming call screen would take over your entire display when your iPhone was unlocked and being used. It was disruptive, sure, but it also got the job done.

Starting with iOS 14, however, Apple changed the incoming call prompt to look more like a typical alert. That is, now it's a small notification that shows up near the top of the screen when you're using your phone. Google is debuting “Auto Ads” — not commercials for cars, but a new ad format that uses machine learning to “read” a page to detect and place what kinds of ads might be appropriate to place there, including where to place them, and how many to run. Publishers activate Auto Ads with a single line of code on the page.

Intel Just Introduced Its First Quantum Processor

The World of Qubits

This is yet another major move by Intel, which shows that Intel is committed to being present in the future. This future will certainly not be far behind.

Quantum computers have the power to revolutionize industries and areas of science, for example, in the area of Artificial Intelligence, making the process of operating neural networks faster or in biology, allowing to analyze in more detail small molecular structures.

While normal computers encode information in bits, quantum computers use quantum bits, that is, Qubits, which take advantage of surprising quantum phenomena and can, therefore, be in 2 different states at the same time.

This new Intel processor has 17 Qubits and proves to be quite promising. Thus, this is the first processor of the company since the 50 million dollar partnership with QuTech was announced. In addition, the processor has a special protection system that allows it to last longer.

“The new design improves quality, thermal performance and reduces radio frequency interference” stated by the Jim Held, the Director of Technology Research at Intel.

This move from Intel makes perfect sense since the tech giant Google, Microsoft and IBM have also publicly shown the results of their efforts in the field of quantum computing. Being one of the leading processor producers, Intel wants to ensure its influence in the future. However, this does not mean that the current processors will soon become obsolete.

The company's Windows 10 chief has tweeted that developing new features and hardware for the Mobile version of the OS was no longer a "focus".

Joe Belfiore added that he had also switched to Android himself.

Windows 10 Mobile tried to attract users by letting them run the same "universal apps" on both their PCs and handsets, but the concept failed to catch on.

The OS accounted for just 0.03% of the global market - based on smartphone shipments - between April and June, according to research company IDC.

The market intelligence provider said the news had been a long time coming.

"There wasn't a wide range of devices running Windows 10 Mobile, so it wasn't attractive to retailers or operators," said IDC's Francisco Jeronimo.

"And from a consumer perspective, the operating system didn't provide as good an experience as Android or iOS."

Mr Belfiore began a series of tweets on Sunday by discussing the recent launch of a test version of Microsoft's Edge web browser for Android and iOS - the latest in a series of releases of its core software for rival mobile platforms.

He then went on to respond to questions about whether there was any point sticking with Windows 10 Mobile.

He said that while Microsoft would support the "many companies" that had adopted the platform, he had switched to Android for the diversity of its apps and hardware.

"Of course we'll continue to support the platform... bug fixes, security updates, et cetera," he said.

"But building new features or hardware is not the focus."

Mr Belfiore posted Microsoft had tried "very hard" to incentivise other companies to release universal apps - even writing their software for them in some cases - but the number of users had been too low for most to bother.

The announcement comes a week after HP had said it no longer planned to release further Windows 10 Mobile handsets, and a fortnight after Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates disclosed that he had already made the switch to Android.

However, some manufacturers - including the UK's Wileyfox and Germany's TrekStor - had unveiled new models powered by Windows 10 Mobile as recently as last month.

"Most Microsoft applications are now available and supported on other mobile operating systems," said Mr Jeronimo.

"After Satya Nadella took over [as chief executive], that clearly became the strategy - and after that happened what incentive was there to buy a Windows-powered phone?"

However, Microsoft may not have given up on powering smartphones altogether.

Earlier this year, Windows Central reported the company was working on a new version of Windows 10 - codenamed Andromeda - that would run on all types of computer and make it possible for third-party apps to adapt without having to code a special "universal" version.

It said the OS was due for release next year, but suggested the code would not be offered as an upgrade to existing Windows 10 Mobile devices.

A spokeswoman for Microsoft was unable to provide further comment.

A bombshell new report says it doesn't matter how good your password is, or what other security settings you have – if you're using WiFi, it's possible for someone to spy on every single thing you do.

And it affects essentially every WiFi network being used, from your private home set-up to the one at your local coffee shop.

The discovery of this serious new issue comes from Mathy Vanhoef, a Belgian computer security researcher. Vanhoef published the findings Monday on a dedicated website, KRACKattacks.com.

The flaw lets people "read information that was previously assumed to be safely encrypted," Vanhoef wrote. "This can be abused to steal sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, chat messages, emails, photos, and so on." 

And the scope is potentially huge: "The attack works against all modern protected Wi-Fi networks," he said.

How it works

We're going to keep this part brief, because it gets very technical very quick.

It concerns the use of "WPA2," a proven method of protecting data on a network. (You've probably seen it when setting up WiFi at a new house or apartment.) WPA2 has been used to make WiFi connections secure for a decade now – it's the "modern standard," Consumerist explains, because it was thought to be well-protected.

The flaw Vanhoef discovered is in the core function of WPA2, during what's referred to as a "4-way handshake." The WiFi access point and the device that's connecting to it talk to each other to make sure credentials match. The device gets issued a new, fresh encryption key, which secures any data that gets sent over that connection (so web browsing, streaming, etc.).

But there's a way for an attacker to have the WiFi access point and your device redo part of that "handshake" process. It forces the device to take an already-used encryption key – not a fresh new one. That gives the attacker an opening to spy on any data that goes over the connection.

The social network giant Facebook is known for its numerous interface changes. This time, they are testing to offer two different feeds: one will bring content from your family and friends, plus sponsored posts; while the other will get non-sponsored page posts.

For now, the test is being conducted in only six countries: Bolivia, Cambodia, Slovakia, Guatemala, Serbia and Sri Lanka. But it is already clear that the change was not good for the pages.

Social networking manager Filip Struharik shows that, according to CrowdTangle, the interactions in the posts of the sixty-plus pages in Slovakia have fallen dramatically in recent days, between 60% and 80%.

Non-sponsored posts are now in the Exploration Feed, released for everyone last week. It gets very hidden in the interface, lost among the various options in the “More” menu of the application; while the news feed, of course, follows as the gateway to Facebook.

This test indicates a future in which pages will have to pay for their posts to appear to the followers themselves. It’s a way for Facebook to increase its advertising revenue – after all, with almost two billion users, it can not be ignored.

ነፍስሽን በገነት ያኑረው <3 

This is the famous image of "Woubit Ethiopia" as she was dubbed. This image was taken sometime in the late seventies by Ethiopia's tourist commission board. Not much is known about the woman subject of the photo.

Her name is Woubit Amensisa. Hailing from Ethiopia's Wollega region, she later moved to Addis Ababa and was a student at Etege Menen School, before finishing her studies and getting a job with Ethiopia's tourism commission. She lived in Addis Ababa with her husband, who worked at Ethiopian Airlines, and her four children. A while ago we released this picture saying that her real name was Almaz Amensisa. We'd like to apologize for the error. The truth is, the beautiful woman in the picture is really named Woubit Amensisa, while Almaz Amensisa is her sister who worked for Ethiopian Television and now resides in the USA. Unlike what is widely believed, outside of her job at the national tourism commission, Woubit was neither a model nor an actress. Her colleagues at the national tourism office managed to convince her to take up a photo shoot opportunity at a time when the national tourism commission was collecting images to serve for promotional purposes. But her image became an international sensation. According to Cuban Ethiopian historian Eduardo Byrono, Woubit never asked for compensation for the photo and only wished that the income serve Ethiopia's tourism industry.

In 2007, Woubit came to the USA to get treatment for an undisclosed illness. Sadly, in November of 2008, Woubit Ethiopia's health had declined and she passed away in the USA.

Although every Ethiopian is familiar with the class, elegance and natural beauty she exhibits in this image, she didn't get the recognition she deserved in her lifetime.
